Ayan Mukerji is an Indian movie director, screenwriter and producer. He was born on 15 August 1983 in Kolkata, India.

Ayan studied at Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai before dropping out to pursue his dream of directing Bollywood movies. His debut film Wake up Sid (2009) was a commercial and critical success.

Brahmastra

The debutante director Ayan Mukerji takes you back to those carefree years when partying hard was the only agenda. It's a film that recreates the magic of those days when bunking college and sneaking into movies was more exciting than books.

The story follows a DJ, Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor), who meets Isha (Alia Bhatt) and falls in love with her. But he soon realises that life isn't so simple and it will take more than just love to make things right.

The film has its share of comic moments and the VFX look incredibly amazing. But it also has its fair share of illogical plot points and is not an easy watch.

Wake Up Sid

The debut movie of ayan mukerji, Wake Up Sid is an unpretentious coming-of-age tale. It stars Ranbir Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma and Supriya Pathak.

The spoiled, lazy brat Sid (Ranbir Kapoor) comes to Bombay for a summer vacation. The party-loving youngster allows time to pass by in long drives, parties that stretch well into dawn and endless hours of doing absolutely nothing.

He meets Aisha Bannerjee (Konkona Sen Sharma), an aspiring writer, who inspires him to 'wake up' and rethink his life. The journey is full of heartwarming moments.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

The Ranbir-Deepika starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. It was also a major hit internationally.

Director Ayan Mukerji brings a new take on the age-old romance story. This rom-com is witty, sharp and contemporary.

It is a good choice for those looking for an easy-to-watch, enjoyable film to spend an evening with. The cast is aptly chosen and they add to the drama.

The story revolves around four friends - Kabir Thapar, Naina Talwar, Aditi Mehra and Avinash Yog. Each has their own flaws and bad habits but they are loyal friends who value friendship above everything else.

Swades

Swades is a film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker which tells the story of an NRI, Mohan Bhargava (Shah Rukh Khan) who comes back to India to meet his caretaker, Geeta (Kishori Ballal), and bring her to the United States. However, the people and the country carve a special space in his heart and he is unable to break away.

While the movie is a romantic comedy, it is not reliant on romantic cliches. Instead, it tells a story that has relevance to our times. It also argues that we should take responsibility for our own development and responsibility.

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

Ayan Mukerji is a popular Indian filmmaker who started his career as an assistant director. He assisted Ashutosh Gowariker on Swades before directing his own film, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

Despite its flaws, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kahna is still one of the most heart-rendering love stories ever made in Hindi cinema. It has plenty of realism to it, yet it never feels gritty or raw in the way you’d expect from an Anurag Kashyap or a Debakar Banerjee drama.

Ayan was born to Amrit Devi and Deb Mukherjee, who are part of one of the most influential Bollywood families. He also has a half-sister, Sunita Gowariker, who is married to Jodha Akbar fame director Ashutosh Gowariker.
