Sevilla boss Mendilibar: Ramos will have a major impact this season

Sevilla manager Jose Luis Mendilibar believes Sergio Ramos will have a major impact on his side this season.

The former Real Madrid captain completed a free transfer back to his old club at the beginning of September after turning down an offer to move to Saudi Arabia.

Although Ramos will turn 37 in March, he brings a wealth of experience to Mendilibar's side as they aim to make their mark in the Champions League in the coming months.

Mendilibar says Ramos is fit enough to play for his new side in the coming weeks and hopes the veteran center-back can play a major role at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

"Ramos is a great player who will help us a lot," Mendilibar said.

"He's not just a great player, he's also a great captain. He will play an important role both in the locker room and on the pitch."

Ramos' colleague in Sevilla's youth team, Jesus Navas, will remain club captain for the 2023/24 season.
